What is Botox?
Botox is used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically to remove wrinkles. It is a drug prepared from the bacterial toxin botulin. Botulin is a purified protein, an organism found in the natural environment where it is largely inactive and non-toxic. Botox is used to treat a number of issues, including but not limited to, fine lines, wrinkles, and TMJ problems. When a licensed professional injects Botox into a patient’s facial muscles, the protein attaches to the nerve endings, inhibiting the nerve transmission in that area. This means the muscles cannot contract in the injected spot, and are temporarily paralyzed.
Why do you need Botox?
Botox is the FIRST and ONLY FDA-approved treatment to treat forehead lines, crows feet, and frown lines. It can also be used for TMJ problems, as it’s a muscle relaxer and it reduces the muscle contractions with TMJ. It is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the US.
What makes you a good Botox candidate?
If you have wrinkles around your eyes or forehead, you are likely a good candidate. Ideally patients are at least 21 years of age, but this is not required.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE BOTOX PROCEDURE?
We will start with an initial consultation which allows Dr. Vogl to get to know you and your overall health. Dr. Vogl will inform you on whether or not your are a good candidate for Botox. He will evaluate your case, go over your expectations, and the expected results. Dr. Vogl will use a thin needle to inject the Botox, which can be done at the initial consultation. The amount of injections depends on the area of your face and how severe the wrinkles are. Then our staff will go over post-treatment care at the end of your appointment.
